Animal Lovers in Hurghada!
ESAF-the Egyptian Society of Animal has had weekly meetings since January to bring
concerned animal lovers together. Over the last months there has been a decline in interest. There are lots of good ideas but only a few things get done....
At least we can rely on a small network via telephone among friends for emergencies. Lately several dogs have been rescued after car and other accidents we have
overseen their medical treatment and have had them adopted. Many of the ESAF members have already adopted cats and dogs from the streets and try to give a helping hand if necessary... Hurghada is difficult without proper vet clinics and boarding or shelter facilities. The community is growing and so is the pet and street animal population... People keep blaming "the other" bad party and this gets us nowhere. DEEDS are needed more than WORDS.

Since we have no infrastructure here, we need to struggle, within our personal capabilities including paying for all expenses privately. Of course it’s never enough and we could do much more, if only we had more ACTIVE volunteers, sponsors, donors...
For instance, that could mean those, with houses and gardens, keeping a sick, injured or very young animal for safekeeping temporarily. It would be wonderful to provide a few good Boarding/Shelter/Clinic facilities here, but without a number of devoted people, who could share the responsibility, the hard work and expense, but also the problem solving it entails, its hardly going to happen....

We are just FIVE ESAF Members in Hurghada right now. To build a strong lobby
of activists on Animal Welfare issues in the region, I would like to urge all concerned
members of the community - local and foreign - to join our organization to decrease
animal suffering in Egypt. We provide also lots of useful information on pet care,
travel infos and animal - related issues in general. Our longterm goal is to raise public awareness on this matter.
Unfortunately, it will take a very long time to make this country a safe haven for animals and to start with education on animal care with very young children.
The founders of ESAF believe peoples concern and kind nature will make a difference for many of our four - legged friends.

If you want to become involved, or to save a poor animal, contact us. New ideas and constructive criticism welcomed.

Egypt Announces Anti-Inflation Program
The Egyptian government has announced a new program to control inflation, which has been steadily rising since January, when the government allowed banks to fix their own interest rates. In the weeks since then, the Egyptian pound has lost about 20 percent of its value against the U.S. dollar. The government, among other things, has decided to freeze the price of such basic foods as sugar, flour, wheat and rice. courtesy of

Get Your Child Ready to Read
Most kids aren't ready to begin decoding words on a page until sometime around age five to seven. But long before then, they can learn these prereading skills:

1) Point to words as your read. As you read, follow along with your finger to help your child absorb this standard.

2) Learn shapes. Letters are made up of shapes. Long before your child can learn to recognize letters, he can learn all about simple shapes.

3) Play listening games. Play sound games such as naming all the things in the house that start with the same sound, and help your child discover the butter, (stuffed) bear, bib, and more around him.

4) Talk. to enrich his vocabulary.

5) Honor books. Set up a special shelf for your child's books and teach him to care for more fragile books in a special way.

6) Don't push. Children under the age of five or so should not be prodded to read.
