Canada Day - 1st July

On June 20, 1868, a proclamation signed by the Governor General, Lord Monck, called upon all Her Majesty's loving subjects throughout Canada to join in the celebration of the anniversary of the formation of the union of the British North America provinces in a federation under the name of Canada on July 1st.

The July 1 holiday was established by statute in 1879, under the name Dominion Day. On October 27, 1982, July 1st "Dominion Day" became "Canada Day".

What to Look For in a Pair of Sunglasses

As you slather on sunscreen to protect your skin this summer, don't forget sunglasses to protect your eyes. The same harmful rays that damage skin can also increase your risk of developing eye problems, such as cataracts-a clouding of the eye's lens that develops over years. In the short-term, people who spend long hours on the beach or in the snow without adequate eye protection can develop photokeratitis, reversible sunburn of the cornea. This painful condition can result in temporary loss of vision.

Everyone is at risk for eye damage from the sun year-round. The risk is greatest from about 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

UV radiation in sunlight is commonly divided into UVA and UVB, and your sunglasses should block both forms. Don't assume that you get more UV protection with pricier sunglasses or glasses with a darker tint. Look for a label that specifically states that the glasses offer 99 percent to 100 percent UV protection. People who wear contact lenses that offer UV protection should still wear sunglasses.

Children also should wear sunglasses. They shouldn't be toy sunglasses, but real sunglasses that indicate the UV-protection level just as with adults. Polycarbonate lenses are generally recommended for children because they are the most shatter-resistant.

Pre-Natal Exercises Available in the Red Sea

Did you know what you can join a stretching class especially designed for pregnant women right here in Hurghada! Every Friday at 11am, 3rd floor, Kotta’s Mall, opposite Marlin Inn Hotel. Join us, meet others and feel great!

Yoga has vital tools for pregnancy. It work wonders on your health and your capability to have a smooth pregnancy. Smooth pregnancy and a natural childbirth are just some of the benefits of yoga. Yoga is a practice - learned relaxation, breathing and exercise to help people to center, relax and strengthen themselves. It is a great stress reliever and

muscle stretcher, helping to prepare the body for birth. Yoga prepares the muscles to do their best job during labor and delivery and the benefits learned will help you to relax after the baby is born. Many women who take up yoga during pregnancy will continue to practice it throughout the rest of their lives. As yoga is so gentle, it is considered one of the safest pre-natal exercise programs. If you follow the program, easing into each set of exercises, the benefits far out weigh any risks (if any) posed from pre-natal exercise. Aside from the benefits of helping with labor and delivery - yoga helps to ease many of pregnancy's discomforts - sciatic pain, round ligament pain and even morning sickness can be relieved through the relaxation and stretching exercises.
